The Gold Coast continues to welcome huge numbers of tourists who are spending record amounts, according to the latest International Visitor Survey (IVS) data released today.
Local MP Steven Ciobo said the latest results show the Coast continues to be a major tourist hotspot for international travellers.
“Spending by international tourists on the Gold Coast continues to boom, which is great news for our local tourism industry, the backbone of our local economy,” Mr Ciobo said.
“Chinese tourists continue to be the Coast’s most lucrative market, spending a whopping $311 million at local businesses, an increase of 27 per cent.
“In the year to September 2018, overall spending increased by 13 per cent to a record $1.35 billion, because more international tourists are coming to the Gold Coast and staying longer.
“This is a testament to our local tourism operators and great news for local businesses and the local economy that benefits from every dollar international travellers spend.”
Mr Ciobo said more international visitors on the Gold Coast meant more people in local restaurants, staying in local hotels and visiting local tourist attractions.
“The latest results show our world class beaches, hinterland, and laid back lifestyle continues to be a major drawcard for international visitors,” he said.
“The Liberal National Government continues to deliver record funding to Tourism Australia to help lure tourists down under, because it boosts our local economy and creates more jobs.”
