$5000 grants available for Gold Coast groups

18 August 2009

Non-profit organisations can now apply for grants of up to $5000 through the 2009 Volunteer Grants program.

Local MP Steven Ciobo is encouraging the hundreds of Gold Coast non-profit organisations to apply for the grants, which are designed to help volunteer organisations purchase small equipment items or to cover fuel costs.

“The Gold Coast is fortunate to have so many hardworking volunteers putting in an enormous effort,” Mr Ciobo said. “Their work helps so many and these grants are a great opportunity to give these important local organisations a bit of a hand.”

“Groups should apply for the grants, which are for a minimum of $1000 and up to $5000, part of a $21 million funding package.

“In 2008, Gold Coast volunteers received more than $60,000 in funding – spread right across the spectrum, from sport to theatre groups, from Country Womens Associations to gardening groups.”

“The grants were established by the Howard Government in 2001 in recognition of the hard work and valuable contribution that non-profit organisations contribute to the Gold Coast.”
