Fallen soldier left a great legacy

09 July 2008

A former Gold Coast student, killed in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan, left a great legacy, Federal Member for Moncrieff Steven Ciobo said.

Signaller Sean McCarthy, from the Perth-based Special Air Service Regiment, attended Trinity Lutheran College, before joining the ADF in 2001.

“This is a terrible loss for Sean McCarthy’s family, the army and the Australian nation,” Mr Ciobo said.

“We offer our thoughts and prayers to Sean’s family and other loves ones during this very difficult time, and also for the injured soldiers. May they make a speedy recovery.

“Sean was a gallant soldier and was fighting for a just cause. He has done the Gold Coast and the Australian nation proud.

“We should reflect upon the legacy that Sean’s sacrifice has left. He was part of an Australian contribution to resist brutal terrorism in Afghanistan.”
