Meet Steven

Steven Ciobo said he would deliver for the Gold Coast, and he has.
Since being elected as part of the Coalition Government in 2001, Steven’s worked hard to double road funding, fight crime on our streets, secure our water resources, reduce unemployment to record lows and improve local health facilities.
He’s proven himself as a local MP who always speaks out and stands up for the Coast.
Steven is one of us. He’s lived on the Coast for nearly 20 years, he drives on our local roads, shops locally and listens to local residents. So he knows the important issues facing our city.
Steven grew up in Mareeba in North Queensland where his family worked hard running a small business dependant on the tourism industry.
It was here Steven learned the link between hard work and reward, the importance of a strong family and the value of giving back to the community. It was a start to life that will always shape his views and values.
This background, and the fact his wife Astra started a small business on the Coast, means Steven is well placed to represent a city known as the small business and tourism capital of Australia.
Before entering Parliament, Steven built a career from the ground up. While studying at university he worked on the floor of a food processing factory to help support himself. He earned degrees in commerce and law and went on to build a professional career at international firms Coopers & Lybrand and, later, PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Today, Steven is dedicated to making the Gold Coast an even better place to live. He has a clear plan for getting on with the job and works toward that vision every day.
